The Company
Parilla Premium Potatoes Pty Ltd was established in 1990 and is
a successful South Australian horticultural farm with properties
situated in both Parilla and Robe. The company produces more than
55,000 tonnes of fresh produce per year to supply both fresh and
processing markets in Australia and overseas. The main crop is Australian
potatoes, while onions and carrots are also grown. These crops are
produced under centre pivot irrigation. Parilla Premium Potatoes
has a small interest in cereal cropping and livestock.
The peak potatoe harvest runs from December until May, although
potatoes are continually harvested throughout the year. Onion harvest
begins in late January and finishes in late April, while the carrot
season runs from April through till October.
While Australian potatoes and carrots are carted away straight
to customers, PPP has established its own Onion Packing Shed where
our onions are graded and packed into bags or cartons before being
sold. The shed operates from February till November and constantly
has a crew of 20-25 people.
Also, at its Parilla property, Parilla Premium Potatoes has Cool
Storage facilities that are used to store onions as well as potato
seed. These
coolrooms have the capacity to store up to 3000 tonnes of produce.
The main yard of the Parilla property is the centre for the farm
operations. Along with the packing shed, the yard has ample storage
facilities
for fuel, produce, fertiliser and equipment and also features sheds
for potato
seed cutting and a carrot wash bay. A fully equipped workshop is
in the centre of the yard, where both tractors and trucks are maintained
regularly.
Parilla Premium Potatoes has a large fleet of tractors and farm
vehicles. The major types of machinery at Parilla Premium Potatoes
include
John Deere Tractors, Potato Harvesters, Onion Grading and Sizing
Equipment,
Onion Harvester, Forklifts and JCB Front End Loaders.
